Design Your First Label - Step-by-Step Tutorial with Barcode & Logo Free

This comprehensive tutorial will guide you through creating your first professional label from scratch. By the end, you'll have a complete understanding of the label design workflow.
What You'll Create
In this tutorial, you'll create a simple product label with:
- Product name and description
- Price
- Barcode (linked to SKU)
- Company logo
Step 1: Prepare Your Data
First, create a simple spreadsheet with the following columns:

Save this as an Excel file (.xlsx) or CSV file.
Step 2: Open the Label Designer
- Go to Label Designer
- You'll see a blank canvas with a sidebar on the left
Step 3: Import Your Data
- Click the Data Source tab in the left sidebar
- Click Upload File and select your spreadsheet
- Your columns will appear as available merge fields
Step 4: Set Up Your Page
- Click the Settings icon (gear) in the toolbar
- Choose a preset:
- For standard labels: Select "Avery 5160" (30 labels per sheet)
- For custom size: Enter your dimensions
- Click Apply
Step 5: Add Elements
Add Product Name
- Click Text in the left sidebar
- Click on the canvas to place the text box
- Type
{{Product Name}}- this will pull data from your spreadsheet - Format it: Make it bold and increase the font size to 18pt
Add Description
- Add another text box below the product name
- Type
{{Description}} - Keep it at a smaller size (12pt)
Add Price
- Add a text box in the top-right corner
- Type
${{Price}} - Make it bold and use a bright color (e.g., red)
Add Barcode
- Click Barcode in the sidebar
- Click to place it at the bottom of the label
- In the properties panel, select Code 128 as the barcode type
- Bind it to the SKU field
Add Logo (Optional)
- Click Image in the sidebar
- Upload your company logo
- Resize and position it in the corner
Step 6: Preview Your Labels
- Click the Preview button in the toolbar
- You'll see all your labels with real data
- Use the arrows to flip through different products
- Check that everything fits properly
Step 7: Export and Print
- Click Download PDF
- Open the PDF file
- Print using these settings:
- Scale: 100% (Actual Size)
- Fit to Page: OFF
- Paper Size: Letter (or A4, depending on your template)

- Test Print: Always print one sheet on regular paper first to check alignment
- Data Quality: Clean your data before importing - remove empty rows
- Font Sizes: Use at least 10pt for readability
- Margins: Leave some margin around text elements to avoid cutting off
